A brief description of the arts we offer :
Judo
Deriving from Jujitsu, itself a derivative of the Samurai arts of feudal Japan, Judo was created in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. The primary objective of Judo is to overpower your opponent using their own force against them. Judo has been proven to be very effective for a smaller practitioner to defend against and counterattack a much larger person using the principles of leverage and momentum. The use of throws, takedowns, sweeps, armlocks, strangles and chokes is employed to gain a submission from your opponent. In recent years there has been a movement toward the sporting element of Judo in some clubs to the exclusion of the more traditional aspects of the art and vice versa in other clubs. At New Cross Martial Arts we endeavour to combine both of these elements into what we feel is a true representation of the art in its original form.
